My mean little albino
I bought this girl last year and she has always been a bit mean. My buddy really wanted her so I sold her to him, but he just called and said he is bringing her back, that she is just too mean. The other day I was at his house and I hooked her to get her out of her cage and she reached back and struck and grabbed her side with a tooth and it did not let go. She wrapped up around her head and twisted her neck up. I was able to finally free the tooth from her skin, but she is definitely just mean as can be. Any tips on calming this girl down? She is super nice looking, and she eats FT rats like a champ. Sometimes she is handleable, and other times she is just mean.
This photo is almost a year old. Sheis pretty good sized now.

Re: My mean little albino
I plan on making it at least three times a week that I take her out and hold her. Sometimes I could pull her out and she would be a doll, but then other times she would just tear up my glove when I was trying to hold her. I don't mind being bit, I have been bit more than I can count, but she is enough to make you think twice about touching her
I sure regretted selling her at the time and now I am glad I am getting her back. She is just a very beautiful Kahl.

Re: My mean little albino
She is very pretty.
I could suggest putting her in a small cloth bag and hold her on your lap so she can get used to your scent and warmth if you can't be "hands on". And just pick to handle her when she goes into that kill-strike position or hisses. Don't let her think that behavior works to keep you away!
- Some information passed to me when I purchased my little Kahl from Sharon Moore. (I could PM you the whole letter if you'd like... just would have to type it)
My little guy is about as calm and sweet as a BP, though.
I handle him everyday except his 2 day post feed rest. Very personable little guy. Hehe.
Keep us updated!

Re: My mean little albino
You know...I wonder if you couldn't just place a small bag over her head when you handle her. Then handle her a lot, so that she realizes that you are not a threat. Then again....it may be tough to get the bag over her head.
Never mind.

Re: My mean little albino
Thanks. I think she might have broke a rib when she twisted herself up the other day. She has a small spot on her side that she is favoring and she only raises her body up so far before she flops back to normal. I just took her out and she is more calm today. Will get some new pics up in a bit, but I got to finish my new rack system tonight.

Re: My mean little albino
There's nothing wrong with having an "angry" snake.
It's just that there are snakes that know they are beautiful and voice their opinions about how dern ugly those things opening the door to their house are.
I have one of those, too.

Re: My mean little albino
Dude, honestly, if I had the freakin' space, I would e-mail you a shipping label and have her out here overnight, train her up and send her back free of charge, lol.
Just be patient. Use that hook every time. Get some nice tongs for feeding, if you've not already, and just be persistent.

Thanks, yeah I have tamed up a few snakes in the past, but none as pissy as her. Like I said, some days she is fine, and others she is just mean. I am sure that she will get better. I got to the point a while back I just got tired of dealing with her, but I am gonna keep it up now. I am just glad I got her back. I had to sell her at the time and wished I never did.
I remember that the other day she got really mean because she had a mite or two on her and we sprayed her with Mite Off and she just litteraly flipped out.

Re: My mean little albino
Some snakes just aren't meant to be shoulder pets. I've a King that's a stellar display. The girl never sleeps, is ALWAYS up to something and looking great while she's at it, but she's fully convinced I'm food. Not aggressive, not mean, she's just sure - in her bones - that I'm made of food.
I've another King that's an equally great display and I can't wait to get her in to her full-time viv (in quarantine, a.k.a. sterile box) and she's also convinced I'm edible, though with recent hook-attempts she's now manageable, provided she's removed by other means than hand.
Thank goodness. It's about time I have one that I can take out and not have to dodge as if I were juggling a rattlesnake.

Re: My mean little albino
I have a wild caught adult female ball python that is mean as #$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^&. She will kill rats if she isn't hungry and just leave em lay. She has broke off a few teeth in several people over the years and hurts bad when she bites. I just don't want this girl to be like that. She is such a looker that I would like to be able to take her out and show her off.

Re: My mean little albino
Maybe it was all the talking... The snakes were just waiting for him to be quiet before they went for the jugular.
I remember a Red-tailed green ratsnake I saw in a pet store once that was big time nasty. The kid at the store was real quick to warn me that it was a bad tempered snake....but dude...this snake was like Linda Blair on steroids. I walked up to the cage and it charged the front with it's mouth open, hissing and puffing up....scared the living daylights out of me. Still....it was a stunning snake. I will tell you what....there is no way that I would have held my hand over its head.

Re: My mean little albino
OK, I really do think she hurt herself the other day when she wrapped herself up. When I get her out she tries to come back at me but cant, so she rolls her neck and body back where her head is upside down to try and strike at me. She did come underneath and tag me on my palm, but she seems like she hurt her back or ribs for sure.

I think so. She is still super fast and alert. I will just give her a week or so and monitor her actions. If anything bad shows up I will cart her over to the vet office and let him get tore up by her

That's funny! My niece is a Vet (no..not an army vet) and her focus is exotics, and so she works on a lot of snakes. She had this guy come in with a big snake and he was holding it as she checked it out. Suddenly it raised its head up to her face and yawned. It scared the devil out of her, and although the owner thought it was funny, he didn't when she went off on him. Afterward she laughed about it too.
