Little guy not eating (boa)
My redtail boa is 10 months old. I've had him since last June. He's been eating like a champ up till two weeks ago. I tried feeding him two weeks back and he struck at the dead rat a few times but showed no interest in eating it. He didn't try to coil on it. Last week I tried feeding again and he showed no interest at all. Didn't even go in the rats direction. He's been burrowing in the aspen shavings for about a week and a half. Possibly shedding but he's never refused a meal even in shed up till now. Room temp is around 68 but his heat pad is working great. Any thoughts on what he's up to. Attempting to brumate? How long can they go without eating and still be okay?
Thanks a ton for your time and have a great one!

Re: Little guy not eating (boa)
First off, a 10 month old healthy boa is in no danger from missing a few meals. A month isn't along time either but the key here is healthy...I can't observe your boa from here...
You didn't mention what the enclosure temps were but a room temp in the high 60's in my snake room will affect the cool side of the enclosure enough to have an effect on the boas hunger.

Re: Little guy not eating (boa)
Wow, with your room being 68, you must either have a small tank or a large heat pad to create a healthy ambient temp for your enclosure.
Such things as humidity, enclosure temps, and enclosure itself would help us help you

Re: Little guy not eating (boa)
68 is too cool for that Boa. You need more heat in the room.

Re: Little guy not eating (boa)
Thanks everyone!
He's in a decent size tank but the heat pad is good size as well. Takes up about 1/3 the bottom of the tank.
He's active on occasion and looks great. Just no interest in feeding. I'll give him a few more days and try again. Maybe poke a small heat lamp on the "cool" side to bring it up a little.
His favorite hide is over the heat pad area so it should be a nice little hot spot for him to warm up in.
Thanks again for all the input.

Re: Little guy not eating (boa)
What is the exact temperature within his enclosure?
He will not eat, or will regurge his meal, if he is too cold.

Re: Little guy not eating (boa)
Like most responses above, you need to up the ambient room temperature. IMO, it should be at least 75. Like you mentioned, if you can't get the ambient room temp up, putting another heat source on the cool side will be ideal. You should get a temp gun if you don't have one and check the temps inside the cage daily. Do you know the temperature on the hot side? It should be able reach high 80s to 90. Check you humidity as well. Humidity should be 55% - 65%. Good luck.

Re: Little guy not eating (boa)
You have got the right advice - so how is the temperature doing now??? Once he is in the correct temperature and humidity, and still not eating, we can go from there.
