Job interview results!
Hey everybody, for the last few days I've been going on about this interview that I had today. And I'm letting you all know the results!
We had a rough morning... got up at 4:30, took a shower etc... When 6:00 rolled around, we got all our stuff ready to go, loaded the kid into the car, and started to make our way to my nana's house (babysitter). I didn't get three blocks from my house when I had a blow out! Thank god it was in town rather than 30 miles down the highway. So change of plans, we had to jump in nathan's car, took brandon to his mom, ask her to take him to Nana, fill up the car and speed (hoping not to get pulled over) to amarillo for our interview at 7:20...
We got there right on time... with 10-11 people in front of us, and 16 accepted into the test and interview (we were 12 and 13 out of 35 people... just barely made it) So we sat and waited till the correctional officer showed up, and she had to make copies of each and every persons social, DL, and education.
Finally! We went over the application, and began the test... Nathan and I both passed! (not to surprised). And we were scheduled for our interview in the afternoon. We did our interview, easy as pie, and we were told that in 45 days or less we will hear from somebody. They will offer us a position at one of the 3 prisons we've applied for... and begin training... soooooo
After all this.. all I have to say is...
WE'RE GETTING JOBS!!! Sure training doesn't start till march but hey! $1500 sign on bonus, and $2240 for the first two months! Three months from when we start, we'll be able to move to Amarillo (out of this god forsaken town), and restart our lives!
Anywho... I told ya I'd let ya know how it went so here ya go! sorry so lengthy, but I'm soooo excited!
Thanks for wishing me luck everybody, I love ya
~Carly~

Re: Job interview results!
Congratulations!
I was once asked by the police department around here to be a Prison Guard...
If you've seen me, you'll realize how hard I laughed, no matter how sweet the job would've been. No one would take me seriously!

Re: Job interview results!
I guess in comparison.
I don't mind amarillo so much as a town, years ago one of my bands played there regularly and always had a great time.
but sheesh.. the wind, I couldn't handle it.

Moving to Armadillo!
No, seriously...congratulations on finding a job. I have met a lot of people who were prison guards (they weren't guarding me, FYI), and they say it is highly stressful. Many inmates have a tendency to seek to manipulate and con you any way they can. I realize this may be stereotypical, but that is how most folks in there learn to get by. Watch your back.
Again, congratulations.

Re: Job interview results!
Congratulations! Great news! Just remember that 25% of the prison population is estimated to be comprised of true sociopaths. If you get a chance, pick up Robert O'Hare's book "Without Conscience." It will prepare you for what you will be dealing with.

Re: Job interview results!
Yeah the inmates will try to mess with ya any way that they can... and I already expect that, but I don't fall for most things. And yeah I didn't mention all the benefits, health, dental, retirement, life... it's great! I'm soooooooo excited, you have no idea, lol. And I know that is a stressful job... but I have so much stress to start out with, that a stressful job would be better, than a stressful... not job... lol.

Just be careful, PM, and it wouldn't hurt to take some martial arts training if you haven't already. That kind of job is well suited for people who like to fight. or at least don't mind it.

They teach some basic martial arts at the academy. And some defensive holds, and non-lethal offense... So I'll be fine there. And I don't mind fighting if it comes down to it.

Re: Job interview results!
I'm soo ready for a call... I really hope this works out... Seems like every time i get overly excited about getting a job, I don't get it... but we'll just have to see I guess. I keep daydreaming about getting a house and having my dogs, and more snakes, and good cages, and new tattoos, and it's driving me crazy...
