I.B.D Strikes Again---May you rest in Peace Keisho
As some of you may know, I have had a bout of IBD go through my collection. The latest victim is Keisho, one of my normal ball pythons and the third addition to my collection. Tomorrow I will take him to the doc and he will be euthinized as his quality of life is no longer acceptable. Following his euthinasia, Keisho will join Malakai, my FL kingsnake mix and the first addition to my collection whom passed away 2 1/2 weeks ago and Ryoku, My larger Pastel Ball Python whom passed away this past Friday, and will go to be cremated. This is another hard time for me and I realize that this is whats best for him as I dont want him to suffer as I feel some of the others have done before I realized that IBD was in my collection. Tomorrow or sometime later this week, I will post pictures for anyone who wishes to see these beautiful animals in their glory days. I know some of yall get tired of seeing me post these threads and I apollogise to anyone whom feels this way. For me this is a sense of closure as I know I have friends on this Forum who can help me to overcome these hard times. I pray thay this is the last of the deaths that I have to deal with other than death from old age. I thank those of you whom have supported me through all of my rough patches since I have joined this site and I hope that I still have your support for may years to come. I also hope that yall know that I am there for you all should you need a helping hand or a shoulder to lean on. So i will end this with a fairwell to Malakai, Ryoku, and as of tomorrow, Keisho, as well as all of the others that I have lost in these past couple of years. I will see you on the other side when my time comes and may you all have an unlimited supply of rats and mice for your enjoyment and a wide open space to explore free from pain, fear, or predators.
R.I.P. Malakai, my first; Ryoku, My beautiful Pastel, and Keisho, the third to my collection and my consoler/friend whom always had an open ear.

I'm extremely sorry to hear about this. It was confirmed as IBD? I didn't know IBD effected Kingsnakes or colubrids. ):

IBD does affect colubrids & pythons, unfortunately.
So sorry for your losses.
Have all your snakes been tested?

Re: I.B.D Strikes Again---May you rest in Peace Keisho
Thanks Star,
Im not sure of the cause of death for malakai and ryoku because they showed no symptoms. There was nothing to lead me to believe that they were ill or close to death. They just suddenly died. As for keisho, He shows all the sugns that the others before him showed. Rapid weight loss, sluggish reflexes, refusal to eat, and he looks just terrible.
For testing the rest of my snakes, because tests rarely show the shedding cells that are infected. that's the problem with IBD. The only thing that I can really do is watch for the signs in each animal and when I am as sure as i can be that they are infected take them to the vet. The only way that I know past animals had it is the necropsy once they were deceased.

Dr. Jacobson claims that: "only one case has been seen in a colubrid and that needs to be revisited since that was based on H&E staining." This was based on correspondence from this past fall.
To the OP - was IBD confirmed in the kingsnake? If so - how?
It may be valuable to forward this information to Dr. Jacobson.
As for your other snakes who were confirmed as having the disease - where were the inclusion bodies found?

Re: I.B.D Strikes Again---May you rest in Peace Keisho
I would not necessarily jump to an IBD conclusion unless it's CONFIRMED by necropsy and tissue tests... There are also a lot of other snake diseases that can seem like IBD... If you take the snake to put him down, GET THE NECROPSY... GET TISSUE SAMPLES... Unless it's confirmed, I wouldn't rule out other things...

Re: I.B.D Strikes Again---May you rest in Peace Keisho
skip, the bodies were found in the liver and lungs and intestine if i remember correctly. I dont believe that the kingsnake died from IBD. He showed absolutely no symptoms, same as my pastel.

Re: I.B.D Strikes Again---May you rest in Peace Keisho
gotcha... didn't realize they found the inclusion bodies... Did they find any in the brain? I have talked with Dr. Jacobson and read his information on IBD and inclusion bodies can form to fight other diseases and infections, same as in humans... So there CAN be inclusion bodies but that doesn't mean it's for sure IBD... The brain is where the IBD disease affects the most... Inclusion bodies in humans are most commonly found in ppl that have Alzheimer and diseases like that...
